BHPC Contingent at Adur Snowboules Open Doubles

Ian Maynard writes: “Twelve BHPC players (all in mixed pairs), along with sixty other players competed in the first tournament of the season the Adur Snowboules [last Sunday]. Of the top sixteen teams to emerge from the nine leagues in the morning two were from Brighton: Nick and Chris, and Pat and Terry. The latter reached the semi-final of the Main Consolage where they lost to the Crowborough pairing of Herbie and Alan. The next sixteen pairs played in the Plate, including Jill G and David M who were knocked out by Di C and Mark, who progressed to semi-final of the Plate Consolage. Janice and Ian survived to the Plate quarter-finals. Ann and Rohan completed what was an excellent turnout from a Brighton contingent on a very cold day.”

Chris Holden adds: “All but our last game was played in the giant gravel pit, so we thought we held our own under the circumstances. I can see now why we’re always encouraged to shoot boule-to-boule and to try lobbing instead of rolling when pointing – in the gravel there was no other way to play!”
