BHPC warmly welcomes an exciting and imaginative extension of its already varied menu of activities, as Trish Taylor describes:
“The Women’s Boules and Cake Morning took place on Sunday 19 October. The idea arose from the club Women’s Doubles which took place on August 30. We had such a good time that we started wondering what could be even better than a Women’s Doubles afternoon? Well – the addition of Cake would be welcome … and playing in the morning would be great too …
And so the idea was born: let’s have a Women’s Boules and Cake Morning!
The format would be a friendly moving mêlée, partners and opponents to be chosen randomly. There would be no fee, no prize and this wouldn’t count towards POTY points. It would be just for fun. And there would be Cake – on this occasion the cakes would be provided by Di V and Trish – chocolate brownies and lemon drizzle, available throughout the morning.
And so on Sunday 19 October eight of us arrived at the clubhouse and tucked in to some particularly lovely chocolate brownies, lemon drizzle cake, tea and fresh coffee to fortify ourselves while waiting for the sun to come out.
Teams were sorted out by a deceptively simple method, and after the first of our doubles games we stopped for more tea and cakes. We had time for a second round of games and were then able to welcome the afternoon players with the remaining cakes, which were well received! [Ed. I should coco.]
Thanks to Charmian for her non-player support and to Ann, Di C, Di V, Gaby, Jill G, Nick, Pat and Trish for supporting the new venture which we hope will become a regular event.”
And so say all of us.
