Sussex Pétanque (SXP) held its Singles and Shooting Championships, the last events of the year, at our terrain yesterday on a lovely Indian summer’s day. Of the 13 contestants, there were 7 from the club: Alan I, David A, Gareth, Ian, Joe, Rohan and Tony.
During the day, players entered the shooting competition. We’re very pleased to report that Tony won the day with 19 points, and will thus represent SXP (together with Steve Mortimer who came second) at the Champion of Champions Championship in a few weeks’ time. Well done, Mr T.
Meanwhile, in the Singles, from the three morning leagues, David A, Gareth, Ian, Joe and Tony all qualified for the top-8, straight knock-out competition, all but Joe being in the same half of the draw. In the quarter-finals, our intrepid Over-50s duo, Ian and David beat Gareth and Tony (this year’s BHPC Open Doubles champions), respectively. Ian then beat David in the semi-final, and so met Jeff Mitchell (Goldsmiths PC) in the final. In top form, Jeff won 13-5. Well done to all our members and to everyone who took part.
