Sussex/Club Success at Champion of Champions Championship (CCC)

This year’s CCC was held at Crondall PC over the weekend in truly Indian summer weather. 18 teams, representing 10 of the 14 EPA regions, were present for the triples championship on Sunday. The format was a 5-round snake. The four best-performing teams would go straight to the semi-finals.

The Sussex 1 team, consisting of club members David and Stephan Alfred and Gareth Jarvis, won four of their five games – including wins against the champions of London, Devon and the Isle of White – but just missed the semi-final stage on points difference. This makes them sort of the fifth best triples team in all England …

Alas, the Sussex 2 team, also made up of club members Di and Mark Cherrie and Gaby Channing, probably due to discombobulating jet lag, shared the wooden spoon with two other teams, but said they enjoyed the experience of playing in such a high-powered tournament.
