SXP Q2 at PST: Crowbrights Shine, Alvis Stall, Adapters Adapt

The second day (of three) of the Sussex Pétanque qualifiers to select the squads for the Inter-Regionals later this year was held at our Peace Statue terrain, to everyone’s general satisfaction. The temperature was well above 10 degrees with the sun making a welcome guest appearance later in the afternoon. As on Day 1, 15 teams entered the fray.

It’s with great pleasure we report that Crowbrights came first, undefeated on the day, and so are now in equal first place overall to date. (Their fourth member is Alan Constable). Very well done, fellas.

Crowbrights: (L) Tony Mann, Ian Maynard, Les MacDonnell

Adapters greatly improved their standing after Day 1 by coming sixth on the day, and are within sight of making the Challenge squad. “One more heave”.

Adapters: (L) David Miller, Alan Issler, Terry Gibbons, Pat Connolly

However, Alvis – David and Stephan Alfred and Janice Doherty (the fourth member is Gareth Jarvis) – came ninth on the day but are still in third place overall.

Well done to all the above, and to Nick Rowlands for running our Café Carreau, ably supported by Jill G and Ann, and to Terry and the EC for preparing the terrain.

The third and last qualifier will be held in Hastings on June 16.

A fuller version of this story will appear in the forthcoming newsletter.
