WSL: Mark Cherrie Wins Consolage in Close Finish

Club Competitions Secretary Ian Maynard writes: “The Consolage League is now complete. Results and table are now [posted]. With only five players it was agreed that each player would play the others twice, so all players played eight matches. This appears to have worked well and is a format that may be adopted if we have only a few entries for the inaugural Triples League starting on April 27.

Jill G finished her matches last weekend, leaving her with 20 match points and a points difference of 28. To top that this weekend Mark needed to win his three remaining matches by a margin of 16 points. He won his match against Ann by just one point. He then won his first match against Bill to 7. So a big win was needed in the final match, and just like Rohan last weekend [in the Main], Mark stepped up to the plate and only conceded three points in his final match.

So congratulations go to Mark on winning the Consolage, beating Jill G into second place by a difference of just two game points. Alan finished third, Bill fourth while Ann had the misfortune of playing opponents who found their best form in the second half of the competition.

To date I’ve had just one further result from the Main – so not much change to report and nothing from the Plate.
